1980 AD SAT 19.7. 17.15 KULMASALI
Transcendental and dreamy psychedelic folk rock and jangly guitar pop, blessed with noisy textures on top. 1980 AD started as a Finnish-language solo project of Aki Pohjankyrö (formerly of the shoegazey guitar outfit Black Twig), but quickly escalated into a full band form, with improvisation and group dynamics shaping the songs in new directions. They released their debut album Lasipallo, pahvikallo (“Glass sphere, cardboard skull”) earlier this spring, with lyrical themes, for example, of belonging to a place and a body, and dreaming up alternative realities in this time of looming politics and ecocatastrophes. Their fresh live quintet consists of Maiju Jouppi (monosynth, sampler, backing vox), Aki Pohjankyrö (vocals, guitar), Jussi Puukka (bass), Mikko Sulonen (guitar), and Rasmus Rantanen (drums, percussions).
